On January 17, 1961, in this farewell address, President Dwight Eisenhower warned against the establishment of a “military-industrial complex.”

people get so caught up in the flag waving, they don’t realize that this is even a possibility—that the integrity of our nation’s government could be compromised by not an outside attack, but by an internal force that is intentionally/unintentionally left unchecked (when we have national debates that last months regarding the cutting of npr to save $0.20 in taxes but balk at even looking at the defense machine whose annual budget runs approx $2,667.00 from every last one of the 300,000,000 living in the united states—“we’re broke..austerity…social investment cuts… we’ll just take it out of what you owe us for defense — $2,666.80, please.  thank you.  glad you understand why we just couldn’t afford that national public radio.”).  5-star general eisenhower, knew what the fuck he was talking about.
still don’t believe it, take 3 minutes to look at this cbs special: 2.3 Trillion missing in pentagon.  that’s a capital emboldened T for Trillion.  whoops, just misplaced it.  to put that much money into perspective, coca-cola, the single most valuable brand on the planet worth about $67.5 billion by bbc news, would fit into the 2.3 trillion dollar hole in the pentagon more than 30 times, comfortably.  but i’m sure it was an honest mistake./ besides what kind of influence could you really buy with 30 coca-colas in your back pocket? idk, probably just enough influence to move the fucking sun if you wanted to.
